Saleen
History of Saleen
The old name of this company was Saleen Autosport. It was founded by Steve Saleen in 1983. Steve Saleen was a race car driver. Steve thought of changing the name of his company to Saleen Performance Incorporated. And he changed the name in 1984. Steve managed to produce the first car in the year 1984 itelf. In 1990, Saleen started producing the Saleen Mustang cars. But after an year, he was stuck with financial problems. This created problems while producing the Mustang cars. So, in 1992, the production of the Mustang cars started in their own factory at Saleen Performance incorporated. For the same reason there was a decrease in the number of cars produced in the year 1992. Just twelve cars were produced this year.
In 1993, Saleen got the help of comedian Tim Allen. He helped Saleen regarding financial woes. This way the production of the Saleen Mustand started pretty well. This way, the production of the cars started increasing year by year. In the year 1997, Saleen participated in the 24 hours of Le Mans. At this time, Saleen was developing the Saleen SR model.
After some years have passed, the name of the company again changed. Now it is Saleen Incorporated. Saleen got financial help from Hancock. This is the reason why Saleen Incorporated started growing after the 90′s. The number of people working at Saleen grew over 400 in the year 2006. This gives us an idea about how much Saleen has grown from the beginning until now. In 2006, Saleen started a store in California, but it closed soon after some months. And it was in 2007, the founder of Saleen Incorporated resigned from Saleen. And now the new chairman of the company is Paul Wilber. Saleen H281 is the latest model from Saleen which was launched in 2008.
