2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S: Unfading Appeal

Porsche’s unveiling of the 2021 911 Turbo S may’ve been sweeter at the Geneva Auto Show, but it manages quite well with a less formal online debut.

The new 911 series car is a flagship model for Porsche, and it looks it—its prominent rear wing is all business—but it is also, of course, classically 911. The appeal of the series is a constant. No other regular production car shape has managed both to give rise to its own mythological dimension, and survive long enough to continually express it; the 911 has.

The 2021 Turbo S’s execution is deliciously purist; a quick survey of its body reveals air vents in the flares, which stand out in relief in the otherwise uncluttered exterior. It sports 20” wheels in front and 21” in back, giving it the track-ready stance of a puma readying a pounce.

The car’s engine is a 3.8L turbocharged flat six, which delivers 640 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. An eight-speed gearbox designed specifically for turbo response helps it get to 60 in 2.6 seconds—blazing time, and faster than expected. The front brakes sport 10-piston calipers to keep things under control.

The interior of the 2021 911 Turbo S is packed to the gills with creature comforts. The extensive list includes endlessly adjustable power seats, and it sports a Bose surround system. The luxury performance package doesn’t come cheap, though; prices start at $205K.
